Them doctors..
"How stubborn are docs when it comes to prescribing and submitting claims electronically? One-fourth of docs passed up a free PC or PDA with that as the only stipulation (and these are the guys that will happily prescribe highly overpriced or ineffective drugs just for a free meal or a sneaky look down a blonde sales rep's shirt.) PDAs fared worse than PCs, with electronic prescription PDAs accepted by only 2,700 of WellPoint's 25,000 doctors. Says David Brailer: "If we don't have small physician's offices to be part of this, we fail." Says the article: "Many doctors are reluctant to make financial investments [because] reduced costs and healthier patients ... don't benefit doctors financially." Now remember, we're talking about the easiest, least-objectionable, no-brainer technology out there, not electronic documentation. The usual solution is offered: throw more money at docs to make doing the right thing more attractive. Still, we've now got a Tipping Point Award for HIT Leadership, dragging out that tired old phrase for yet another lap around the track."
